SUMMARY:Culture Matters: Creating Culturally Responsive Evidence-based
  Programs
DESCRIPTION:Developing evidence-based programs that are in harmony wit
h the culture of its participants are challenging to design, implement
, and evaluate. This webinar will include a discussion on the use and
application of evidence-based programs (EBPs) with racially/ethnically
diverse populations, including potential challenges when making cultu
ral adaptations. We will also explore the use of practice-based progra
ms and the role that evaluation plays. With the increased emphasis on
the use of EBPs within the behavioral health field, it is important to
understand organizations’ experiences and understanding of EBPs wit
h the populations they serve. A Latino youth serving organization will
share their experiences with EBPs and their challenges in finding pro
grams that meet the needs of the Latino immigrant families they serve.
They will share the steps taken to develop, implement, and evaluate t
heir own practice-based program, a trauma-informed Family Reunificatio
n and Strengthening Program for Latino families who have experienced i
mmigration-related family separations. The main goal of the program is
to help families understand that perceived, incompatible differences
can and should be overcome to ensure healthy youth development and fam
ily stability. We will present a framework identifying the key issues
in developing culturally responsive programs, followed by presentation
s and discussion among the panelists. \r\n Panelists: Marcella Hurtad
