SUMMARY:Gender equality and social inclusion mainstreaming in WASH
DESCRIPTION:This webinar will be an opportunity to hear from a CEDIL p

 tions\r\nPoor access to water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) services
  threatens population health and contributes to gender and social ineq
 ualities, especially in low-resource settings. Despite awareness in th
 e WASH sector of the importance of promoting gender equality and socia
 l inclusion (GESI) to address these inequalities, evaluations of inter
 ventions focus largely on health outcomes, while gender equality and o
 ther social outcomes are rarely included. GESI mainstreaming in WASH s
 ervices is often viewed as having the dual purpose of improving the su
 stainability and effectiveness of the technical and health outcomes, a
 s well as promoting positive change in GESI outcomes. \r\nThe review 
 included 499 publications across 463 studies. Most included studies (
 78%) lacked a specific GESI mainstreaming component in their intervent
 ion design. Of the interventions with GESI mainstreaming, the majority
  targeted women and girls, with very few focused on other social group
 s or intersectional considerations.\r\nIn light of the research gaps f
 ound in the CEDIL-funded review ‘Gender and social outcomes of WASH 
 interventions: synthesis of research evidence’, the aim of this sess
 ion is to discuss the importance of GESI mainstreaming in WASH interve
 ntions. Specifically, the webinar will explore how evaluations of GESI
  mainstreaming efforts in WASH can be done better and what type of sup
