DESCRIPTION:Though development has not always been measured in terms o
 f economic growth there has not been a consistent\neffort to explore h
 ow economic growth is translated into Social Development. From UNDP’
 s Human Development Index to current day’s Multidimensional Poverty 
 Index there have been conceptualizations and frameworks towards unders
 tanding social development. However, there have not been consistent ef
 forts by Governments, Multilateral agencies, NGOs and disciplinary lea
 ders in the academia towards contextualizing the different concepts an
 d frameworks for addressing social development. Therefore, there is a 
 need to bring together the various strands of discourse relating to s
 ocial sector development from the academic and practitioners’ world.
 \n In the light of this background the Institute of Public Enterprise 
 (IPE) – Hyderabad is organizing an International Seminar on Social S
 ector Development – Issues, Challenges and Policy. This seminar will
  address the current Challenges and Issues concerning Social Developme
 nt, as manifested in various sectors and programmes from Research, Dev
 elopment and Policy perspectives. The Seminar will seek to eventually 
 come up with conceptualizations, frameworks and road maps that will he
 lp ensure development in areas and sectors like health, education, agr
 iculture, rural development, employment, food security, livelihoods, r
 esettlement, gender, environment and climate change, urban poverty, et
 c. While the central theme of the Seminar is Social Sector Development
  in India, it spans a variety of sub-sectors and bears close relations
 hip to inclusive growth. The various sub-sectors provide an appropriat
 e context for critically analysing the issues and challenges the socia
 l sectors are facing.\nIn this context, IPE intends to engage and work
  with leading agencies and individuals who have made significant contr
 ibution in the field of social sector development. Further, IPE would 
 also like to take this opportunity and work towards creating a think t
 ank that would mainstream social development in all National Programme
 s to make the Inclusive Growth paradigm a measurable reality. IPE invi
 tes eminent academicians, government officials, scholars and practitio
 ners who have made significant contribution in social and economic dev
 elopment to contribute papers to this Seminar.\nPlease see the concept
