DESCRIPTION:INTRODUCTION\nThe Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduc
 tion, the global roadmap for disaster risk reduction from 2015 – 203
 0 recognizes the importance of gender-dimensions in disaster risk redu
 ction (DRR) and calls for inclusiveness and engagement of all society.
  Sendai Framework called for:\n“a gender, age, disability and cultur
 al perspective in all policies and practices; and the promotion of wom
 en and youth leadership; in this context, special attention should be 
 paid to the improvement of organized voluntary work of citizens.”\nF
 urthermore, Sendai Framework emphasized that \"women and their partici
 pation are critical to effectively managing disaster risk and designin
 g, resourcing and implementing gender-sensitive disaster risk reductio
 n policies, plans and programmes; and adequate capacity building measu
 res need to be taken to empower women for preparedness as well as buil
 d their capacity for alternate livelihood means in post-disaster situa
 tions.\"  This course seeks to fill gaps in practical guidance in gen
 der mainstreaming in disaster risk management at the local and communi
 ty level.\nIt also is imperative that capacities of both women and men
  must be harnessed so they can address vulnerable conditions and prote
 ct themselves, their families and communities against hazards. And thi
 s course will strengthen the participants’ knowledge and skills in i
 ntegrating gender in the concepts and practices of Community-based dis
 aster risk management (CBDRM).\nWHO SHOULD ATTEND\nThe training is mea
 nt for project managers, DRR officials, Gender professionals, governme
 nt officials, CBO operatives, NGO employees, UN Staff and anyone invol
 ved in project management activities\nCOURSE OBJECTIVES\nIn general, t
 he course aims to integrate the gender perspective in disaster risk ma
 nagement to ensure that both women and men have the necessary capaciti
 es in addressing their respective vulnerabilities to enable them to pr
 otect themselves, their families and their immediate communities.\nSpe
 cifically, the course aims to:\n\nReview the concepts of disasters and
  Community-Based Disaster Risk Management (CBDRM)\nIntroduce participa
 nts to the gender perspective in CBDRM and the process of gender integ
 ration in CBDRM\nExpose the participants on the process of gender-sens
 itive risk assessment\nIntroduce the participants to Gender-Sensitive 
 Disaster Risk Management for effective disaster risk reduction, respon
