 y 22nd, 12.30 pm, Jantar Mantar, New Delhi Since the December 2012 ga
 ng rape case in Delhi, many cases of violence against women and girls 
 are being reported with frightening regularity. In the first three mon
 ths of this year alone, there have been 393 reported cases of rape in 
 Delhi. The shocking incident of sexual assault and brutalization of a 
 5 year old girl in Delhi and that of a 6 year old girl who was raped a
 nd murdered in Aligarh are two of the recent cases that have been high
 lighted. Over and over again, the police have failed to discharge thei
 r duties and have proved themselves to be corrupt, ineffective, prejud
 iced and often violent.In case after case, women, their relatives and 
 supporters continue to be harassed and those protesting the inaction o
 f the police are being thrashed. In the Delhi case, we protest the cal
 culated delay in filing an FIR, attempts at bribing the family and the
  audacity in assaulting a woman protester. We also protest the physica
 l violence perpetrated by the police in Aligarh on women protesters, a
 s well as the insensitive remarks of the SSP (Aligarh), Amit Pathak, a
 bout the little girl who was murdered. Suspending police personnel is 
 mere eyewash and NOT enough! We have to make sure that all those who h
 ave attempted to subvert justice are chargesheeted and dismissed. We h
 ave to hold police personnel accountable under the various provisions 
 of the newly promulgated Criminal Law (Amendment) Act 2013. We also de
 mand that police reforms be initiated accountability secured from men 
 in uniform.Friends, comrades, join the protest organised by women's gr
