DESCRIPTION:About the Workshop:In this workshop, you will learn a new 
 approach to scaling the social and environmental impacts of programs, 
 policies, products, and investments. The approach is based on the book
  Scaling Impact: Innovation for the Public Good written by Robert Mc
 Clean and John Gargani, and it is grounded in their collaborations wit
 h social innovators in the Global South. The workshop goes beyond the 
 book, reflecting the authors’ most recent thinking, and challenges p
 articipants to adopt a new scaling mindset. Dr. Gargani will introduce
  participants to the core concepts of the book, then participants will
  work in small groups to complete hands-on exercises drawn from their 
 professional settings. The workshop is intended as an introduction, an
 d participants will be provided with free resources to continue thei
 r learning. By the end of this workshop, participants will be able to
 :◾ Define two critical concepts—impact and scaling.◾ Know the di
 fference between increasing operational scale and scaling impact.â—
 ¾ Understand common terms and strategies for scaling.â—¾ Apply four pr
 inciples of successful scaling.â—¾ Identify the risks posed by scaling
  and know how to address them.â—¾ Understand that scaling poses new ch
 allenges for evaluators.◾ Apply the dynamic evaluation systems mode
 l to their work.◾ Develop an inclusive evaluation plan that support
 s successful scaling.About John Gargani:John Gargani, PhD, is Founder 
 and President of Gargani + Company, Inc based in Berkeley, California.
  He is the past president and secretary of the American Evaluation Ass
 ociation. He and his staff at Gargani + Company Inc. work with organiz
 ations of every type to measure their social impacts, design innovativ
 e solutions to social and environmental problems, and evaluate their e
 ffectiveness and efficiency. He holds three graduate degrees — a PhD
  in education from the University of California, Berkeley, where he st
 udied measurement and evaluation; an MBA from the Wharton School of th
 e University of Pennsylvania; and an MS in statistics from New York Un
