 Area, New Delhi\nBackground: The evidence for making policy, programm
 e and practice decisions is best based on careful analyses and synthes
 es of multiple studies. These may be studies of the same topic such as
  microfinance and poverty, or across several areas of a single program
 , e.g. child abuse.\nSystematic reviews and meta-analyses explore a va
 riety of questions: What is the extent of the problem?  Which risk an
 d protective factors are associated with specific conditions? How acce
 ptable are certain interventions in different populations? Which inter
 ventions have been rigorously evaluated with what results? What works 
 best, for whom, under what conditions, and at what cost?\nObjectives: 
 This workshop presents the scientific principles, methods, analysis, a
 nd reporting standards that guide the process of conducting systematic
  reviews and meta-analysis in social sciences. Participants will also 
 work in groups to produce titles for registration with the Campbell Co
 llaboration. Topics to be covered include:\n\nPrinciples and methods o
 f research synthesis\nCommon sources of bias and errors in research re
 views\nSteps in conducting systematic reviews and meta-analysis\nStrat
 egies for minimizing bias\nReporting standards and guidelines for syst
 ematic reviews\nProblem formulation, and developing review questions i
 n the Indian context\nUses and misuses of research synthesis to inform
  policy, practice and further research\nRegistering titles and protoco
 ls, and conducting reviews with the Campbell Collaboration\n\nMethods:
  The workshop will employ the use of lectures, discussion, group and c
 omputer exercises. Participants should bring their own laptops and pri
