Hi Ms. Murthy,

I thank you for addressing such question which I am going to answer (briefly) below. By the way, my opinion does not reflect that of the UN Global Compact but it is just based on my own knowledge and strategic thinking.

I am going to follow some of the key points of the ‘WEPs Tool: Questionnaire’. I think that the main challenges for implementation are (one or a combination of):

  1. Lack of leadership commitment and support for gender equality and women’s empowerment
  2. Lack of non-discrimination and equal opportunity policies
  3. Prejudices in the recruitment processes
  4. Biases in assessing employees’ capacity and performance
  5. Lack of opportunities for professional development, promotion, and growth for women
  6. Lack of access to learning opportunities
  7. Lack of M&E to make sure that women and men are compensated equally for the same work
  8. Lack of opportunities for paid maternity and paternity leave
  9. Outdated mentality at various levels of the organization
  10. Lack of attention to and interest in employees’ work-life balance
  11. Lack of transparency, integrity and work ethics within the organization
  12. Lack of access to learning opportunities.

Which are your thoughts?

Have a nice day,

Laura Gagliardone

Dear Laura

Thanks for the same.

What do you think would be the challenges to adapting it to UN, government or NGO context?

Best
