F Njahîra Wangarî - Book Chapter

Abstract
"This chapter blends African oral and written narratives, lived experiences with a genetic chronic disability and a Roman Catholic upbringing. These will be interrogated to illustrate the role of alternative explanations in influencing advocacy and activism for the lives, wellbeing, dignity and inclusion of persons with disabilities. Particularly, this chapter is an exploration of self-identity and how persons with disabilities are conditioned to view ourselves in specific ways while highlighting alternative perceptions available is presented by the author. It engages the works of several African and African-descendent authors who feature persons with disabilities as characters in their books and relies on narrative prosthesis as the basis for this engagement."

Discover why true strength lies in vulnerability in my latest article, “Boys Do Cry: Redefining Masculinity.” I challenge the age-old notion that men must hide their emotions, sharing powerful personal stories that expose how the pressure to “man up” often leads to loneliness and mental health struggles.

The article calls for a bold redefinition of masculinity that embraces openness and authenticity. I highlight inspiring initiatives in Zimbabwe, Rwanda, and through the African Union that are creating safe spaces for men to express their feelings without judgment.

It’s time we build a world where boys and men can cry, heal, and thrive.
