Astha Ramaiya [Co-author] Shared the Journal Article - Published in Child Abuse & Neglect, June 2026

A new systematic review published in Child Abuse & Neglect examined the link between mental health and technology-facilitated child sexual exploitation and abuse (TF-CSEA). Analysing 10 studies with over 25,000 participants across seven countries, researchers found that depression, anxiety, low self-esteem, and prior trauma were consistently associated with victimisation. Crucially, the relationship appears bidirectional with mental health difficulties both preceding and resulting from exploitation; creating potential cycles of repeated harm. Perhaps most striking: traditional parental monitoring through technological surveillance showed limited protective effects. What actually mattered? The quality of parent-child relationships including, open communication, emotional warmth, and trust. The findings suggest prevention efforts should combine universal school-based programmes building emotional resilience with targeted support for high-risk youth, while parent education should prioritise connection over control. With 12.5% of children globally experiencing online solicitation annually, understanding these psychological pathways is essential for effective child protection.

Event Description

Dear colleagues:

While collecting data via web forms is commonplace, they aren’t always the first choice for primary data collection from remote and low-resource populations. However, recent SurveyCTO web form improvements provide many options to customize the form-filling experience to tailor forms for the needs of different audiences. Join us for this webinar to learn more:

Title Learn about flexible web form deployment, customized for the needs of any respondent (webinar)

Date - Wednesday, May 5th, 2021, at 9 AM ET

Link  - https://www.surveycto.com/blog/web-form-deployment-webinar/

Web forms are used for a great many scenarios. You can receive job applications, solicit internal feedback from your own organization, and if you can work around access challenges, you can use web forms to facilitate self-enumeration in research, and monitoring and evaluation (M&E) contexts. Broadening the range of data collection modes we make use of to generate primary data is a cornerstone of the Safe People + Data Initiative.

In this webinar you’ll learn more about the following in relation to customizing web forms:

  • How to set up web forms for the easiest use possible
  • How to set up web forms as securely as possible
  • Availability of form navigation options
  • An overview of complementary features, including interface and form translations
  • Recommendations on incorporating web forms into your data collection

Participants will learn about SurveyCTO’s approach to web forms and a detailed account of how to customize the form-filling experience for different audiences. This event should be helpful to new and experienced users (who might have missed recent developments).
