The Delhi External Affairs Council (DEAC), a wing of Women’s Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (WICCI), is organising an online roundtable discussion titled “Reconstructing Women’s Economic Empowerment: Bottom-Up Perspectives” on 30th November 2024 from 10:00 am to 2:30 pm.
The council will be hosting 4 sessions:
(a) Session: 1 - Introducing the usability of a bottom-up approach to women’s economic empowerment; (b) Session 2 - Facilitating Rural Women’s Participation in the Economy; (c) Session 3 - Female Entrepreneurship; and (d) Session 4 - Capturing and Applying Bottom-Up Perspectives.
This roundtable has been conceptualised by Dr. Sugandha Nagpal, Associate Professor O.P. Jindal Global University, Director of Centre for Migration and Mobility Studies, O.P. Jindal Global University, and also a Council Member of Delhi External Affairs Council (DEAC).
Overview of the Roundtable:
Women’s participation in the workforce is a crucial measure of empowerment and societal progress. However, despite notable advancements, the gap in gender parity in economic participation remains persistent. This roundtable discussion seeks to address the multifaceted challenges that Indian women face in their employment choices while highlighting grassroots solutions that promote financial empowerment from the ground up.
Key Discussion Points:
How do women navigate their economic participation decisions?
How do women define economic empowerment in their own contexts?
What role does a bottom-up approach play in empowering women, especially in the informal sector?
