F Njahîra Wangarî - Book Chapter
Abstract
"This chapter blends African oral and written narratives, lived experiences with a genetic chronic disability and a Roman Catholic upbringing. These will be interrogated to illustrate the role of alternative explanations in influencing advocacy and activism for the lives, wellbeing, dignity and inclusion of persons with disabilities. Particularly, this chapter is an exploration of self-identity and how persons with disabilities are conditioned to view ourselves in specific ways while highlighting alternative perceptions available is presented by the author. It engages the works of several African and African-descendent authors who feature persons with disabilities as characters in their books and relies on narrative prosthesis as the basis for this engagement."

On one end of the spectrum there are lively, fun, conversations that leave everyone feeling marvelous but are not documented. On the other end are task-oriented evaluation meetings and data collections that can be cold and distant and not seem to adequately represent the nature of the work that we do.
Join us for a day of experiential learning in New Zealand where processes help stakeholders set their own agendas and priorities.
In an experiential setting we will focus on facilitation skills, adaptations for evaluation, and indigenous roots and synchronicity with Art of Hosting practices by highlighting the Maori practices of hosting self and others Oruarua Tinana (Maori Tai Chi) - Manaaki (looking after people), Waananga (In-depth learning), and Whanaungatanga (Building and maintaining relationships).
