Gender-Based Violence (GBV) is not just a social issue, it’s a systemic challenge that undermines agricultural value chains.

In rural and isolated areas, GBV threatens women’s safety, limits their economic participation, and weakens food security. When women cannot work safely, entire communities lose resilience, and businesses lose productivity. Climate resilience strategies that overlook gendered risks leave communities exposed and women vulnerable.

Ending GBV is essential for building equitable, sustainable, and climate-resilient agri-food systems; and it’s not only a human rights imperative, but also central to climate adaptation and economic stability.

The good news? Solutions work. Programs like the Women’s Safety Accelerator Fund (WSAF) demonstrate that addressing GBV can enhance productivity and strengthen workforce morale and brand reputation. Safe, inclusive workplaces aren’t just good ethics, they’re smart business.

Event Description

April 10 (i.e. Tomorrow), we are organising a Public Townhall on Zoom, Another Pandemic: Domestic Violence about domestic violence during the lockdown and we would like to invite you to attend it.
As you know, the COVID19 pandemic has forced people into their homes over the last few months. In this situation, many women and girls in vulnerable positions end up staying with abusive families. This has led to an increase in violence against women and domestic violence reports - the National Commission for Women has recorded a more than twofold rise in gender-based violence. The number of domestic violence cases shot up from 30 to 69 in the month of March alone.

We will have speakers from organisations working on domestic violence in various part of the country such as  Jagori, Coro, Swayam, Northeast network, My choices Foundation and Devyani Kacker (Legal expert) who will be talking about this issue and taking questions. If you want to attend, simply copy the meeting ID given below on your Zoom app. We hope to see you on Friday.
