Evaluation of UN Women’s Work on the Care Economy in East and Southern Africa

A regional study of gender equality observatories in West and Central Africa, carried out by Claudy Vouhé for UN Women

Sources: UN Women

This regional study offers an inventory and analysis of the legal framework of gender observatories, their attributions, functions and missions. It is based on exchanges with 21 countries, in particular the eleven countries that have created observatories. It compares the internal organisation and budgets of the observatories between countries, looks at operational practices, in particular the degree of involvement in the collection and use of data, and identifies obstacles and good practices in terms of influencing pro-gender equality public policies. Finally, the study draws up a list of strategic recommendations intended for observatories, supervisory bodies and technical and financial partners.

Tara Prasad Gnyawali Article - 2025

This article focused on the story of community living in a wildlife corridor that links India and Nepal, namely the Khata Corridor, which bridges Bardiya National Park of Nepal and Katarnia Wildlife Sanctuary of Uttar Pradesh, India.

EvalPartners Innovative Challenge call for equity & gender proposals

EvalPartners announces a call for suggestions of innovative ideas for promoting equity-focused and gender-responsive evaluations.  As described in the attached announcement, after receiving brief initial proposals (deadline 15th November), four semi-finalists will be selected and invited to develop more detailed proposals, out of which two will be selected to receive grants of up to US$ 15,000 each.

More specifically (extracting from the announcement):

Innovation Challenge objective: We would like to offer this opportunity to identify innovative ideas which have an explicit spotlight on equity and gender within strategies to strengthen the demand for and use of evaluation to inform policy making, including in the context and spirit of EvalYear (the International Year of Evaluation, 2015). We are particularly interested in encouraging ideas that bring stakeholders together across national boundaries.

Eligibility: Proposals can be received from representatives of Voluntary Organizations for Professional Evaluation (VOPEs), i.e. national or regional associations or societies or networks of evaluators.  Proposals might include cooperative partnerships with not-for-profit organizations, governmental, non-governmental or inter-governmental organizations, academic institutions or private sector organizations with an interest in and/or mandate for evidence-based policy making.

This call for proposals and the process for selecting winners are further described on pages 1-3 of the attached document.  Interested persons should use the Entry Form on page 4.

We invite those of you receiving this announcement to pass it on to others in your networks whom you feel may have innovative ideas to propose.

We look forward to hearing from you.
