Gender-Based Violence (GBV) is not just a social issue, it’s a systemic challenge that undermines agricultural value chains.

In rural and isolated areas, GBV threatens women’s safety, limits their economic participation, and weakens food security. When women cannot work safely, entire communities lose resilience, and businesses lose productivity. Climate resilience strategies that overlook gendered risks leave communities exposed and women vulnerable.

Ending GBV is essential for building equitable, sustainable, and climate-resilient agri-food systems; and it’s not only a human rights imperative, but also central to climate adaptation and economic stability.

The good news? Solutions work. Programs like the Women’s Safety Accelerator Fund (WSAF) demonstrate that addressing GBV can enhance productivity and strengthen workforce morale and brand reputation. Safe, inclusive workplaces aren’t just good ethics, they’re smart business.

Event Description

Nonprofit program evaluation is a systematic process to understanding what difference a program has made. It can answer questions such as - Are at risk students reading better? Are homeless people getting resources they need to secure housing? Are diabetic patients exercising more, and eating better?

A critical element of nonprofit program evaluation is measurable outcomes. These are change statements, requiring organizations to define what their program activities are, and what change is expected as a result. Development professionals frequently need these statements for grant proposals, and program staff need them to serve as a compass as to what they want to achieve. Both parties need to be in agreement as to what these outcomes are, and how they will be measured.

This learning lab will provide an overview of evaluation, and then hone in on how to create measurable outcomes collaboratively. A succinct formula to develop these outcomes will enable participants to gain hands on experience, and integrate this practice into their own development work.

About the Instructor:
Chari Smith believes evaluation should be accessible, practical and usable. She founded Evaluation into Action, located in Portland, Oregon, to help nonprofit professionals create realistic and meaningful program evaluation processes.
