Event Description

This is an invitation to register for the on-line “Transitions to Sustainable Development – Social scientists meeting the challenge” e-conference which will run from 25 August – 8 September.

This e-conference builds on the challenges set out through the priority action steps suggested in the World Social Science Report 2013 summary.This e-conference aims to:

  • showcase the range of social science initiatives addressing global and local environmental change
  • identify ways in which the social sciences can help society manage transitions to sustainable development
  • look at how to strengthen the use of the social sciences in addressing global and local environmental change
  • support social science leadership in integrated research
  • engage with new colleagues and strengthen the social science community of practice

The e-conference will be run as a moderated online discussion using the Transitions to Sustainable Development (TSD) network Forum, and will be hosted on the “engaged Social Science / Hui Rangahau Tahi” (eSocSci) website. An archive of the conference discussion and selected blog postings will be mirrored on the eSocSci and Learning for Sustainability sites.

This e-conference is expected to have wide relevance - and will be of particular interest to social scientists and those who use and integrate social science, including research, community and sector leaders, indigenous groups, policy makers and R&D funders/donors. Participation is free, and there are no travel costs. More information on the e-conference, and how to register can be found on the TSD-network e-conference registration page.
