UNDP-UNICEF Joint Dialogue: Gender-based Violence and Technology,
With the exponential increase in gender-based violence since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, there has been a rise in the use of the mobile and web-based technology to support survivors of gender-based violence. However, privacy and security issues linked to the use of such tools, if ignored, can undermine their effectiveness and compound the risks faced by women. Moreover, women in the Europe and Central Asia and Asia-Pacific regions, like in most parts of the world, have less access to technology than men. Drawing on the work of practitioners and experts, this policy dialogue will focus on the relationship between gender equality and technology, paying particular attention to the digital gender gap, the use of technology in addressing gender-based violence and related privacy and security issues.
The joint UNDP and UNICEF webinar, covering 2 regions, will address the following:
23 June 2020, 2 pm Bangkok time
Moderator: hvale vale, Coordinator, EROTICS Soth Asia Project, Association for Progressive Communication (APC)
Speakers: Bhavna Jha, Research Associate, Gender and Online Violence, IT for Change
Gerda Binder, Senior Regional Advisor, Gender Equality, UNICEF East Asia and Pacific Regional Office
Kaca Djurickovic, Gender Programme Manager, UNDP Montenegro
