F Njahîra Wangarî - Book Chapter
Abstract
"This chapter blends African oral and written narratives, lived experiences with a genetic chronic disability and a Roman Catholic upbringing. These will be interrogated to illustrate the role of alternative explanations in influencing advocacy and activism for the lives, wellbeing, dignity and inclusion of persons with disabilities. Particularly, this chapter is an exploration of self-identity and how persons with disabilities are conditioned to view ourselves in specific ways while highlighting alternative perceptions available is presented by the author. It engages the works of several African and African-descendent authors who feature persons with disabilities as characters in their books and relies on narrative prosthesis as the basis for this engagement."

Despite legal and social advances over the past two decades, sexual and gender minorities (or LGBTI people) continue to experience widespread discrimination and violence. The Equality of Opportunity for Sexual and Gender Minorities (EQOSOGI) report examines the laws and regulations that affect the lives of LGBTI people in 16 countries, offering numerous policy recommendations designed to prevent and eliminate discriminatory practices.
Join the World Bank and a panel of experts at a virtual event on the sidelines of the 76th session of the UN General Assembly for the launch of the EQOSOGI report. Our panel will reflect on the findings of this new report and the legal challenges and opportunities facing sexual and gender minorities across the globe
