Event Description

Bernadette P Resurreccion and Rebecca Elmhirst will reflect on their book Negotiating Gender Expertise in Environment and Development: Voices from Feminist Political Ecology.

This book has grown from a series of conversations with leading practitioners around the power-laden realities of "doing gender" in the fields of technical and scientific research, advocacy and policy-making. Drawing on insights from feminist political ecology and feminist science, technology and society studies, the book explores questions of epistemology and hierarchies of situated knowledge. The personal narratives and reflections of the authors and their collaborators highlight strategies that blur epistemological boundaries and open up possibilities of alternative pathways to an equitable and sustainable future.

In this webinar, the authors will speak on the process of co-creation that gave birth to this book, and reflect on the insights and questions it has raised for them. Researchers and colleagues from Nepal and other countries will reflect on the issues raised by the book from their own situated standpoints, followed by a moderated open-floor discussion on "doing gender" in the development sector.
