Astha Ramaiya [Co-author] Shared the Journal Article - Published in Child Abuse & Neglect, June 2026

A new systematic review published in Child Abuse & Neglect examined the link between mental health and technology-facilitated child sexual exploitation and abuse (TF-CSEA). Analysing 10 studies with over 25,000 participants across seven countries, researchers found that depression, anxiety, low self-esteem, and prior trauma were consistently associated with victimisation. Crucially, the relationship appears bidirectional with mental health difficulties both preceding and resulting from exploitation; creating potential cycles of repeated harm. Perhaps most striking: traditional parental monitoring through technological surveillance showed limited protective effects. What actually mattered? The quality of parent-child relationships including, open communication, emotional warmth, and trust. The findings suggest prevention efforts should combine universal school-based programmes building emotional resilience with targeted support for high-risk youth, while parent education should prioritise connection over control. With 12.5% of children globally experiencing online solicitation annually, understanding these psychological pathways is essential for effective child protection.

The FIFE
 (Forum international francophone de l’évaluation) ended a few days ago in Dakar. 
It was attended by nearly 250 representatives from 21 Francophone countries, including parliamentarians, government officials, Courtof Auditors, development partners (UNICEF, UNDP, UNWomen ...), NGOs, universities, VOPEscivil society.
I am pleased to share with you some documents related to our activities that are of interest to EvalPartners
  • The Declaration of EvalYear 2015 by RFE (PPT and synthesis)
  • L'Appel for evaluation in the Francophone world (text and synthesis) endorsed by participants at the close of FIFE and to be presented to the Heads of State at the Francophonie Summit scheduled in a few days
  • The brochure on evaluation (advocacy) developed during the RFE-OIF Innovation Challenge project
  • The sticker of EvalYear « J'y contribue »  distributed to participants. They were invited to become ambassadors of EvalYear 2015 in their own country "with all the responsibilities associated"
  • Videos of the Declaration and of the Appel should be available shortly.
RFE has made a great leap forward with the 1st Forum International Francophone de l’évaluation and its interest in EP and 2015 was greatly strengthened.
