The article, led by Linnea Zimmerman examines how opportunity structures (parental influence and neighborhood context) affects individual agency among boys and girls in Kinshasa, DRC. We used longitudinal data to identify three distinct groups for boys and girls in each domain. Parental monitoring was associated with the development of both domains for boys, but showed no association for girls. Conversely, parental closeness was more strongly associated with development for girls, than for boys. Neighborhood safety was associated with greater Voice and Freedom of Movement for both boys and girls.

The EVALSDGs EVALUATION INSIGHT (EI) on "Quick Tips to Assess the Risks of AI Applications in Monitoring and Evaluation", authored by myself, aims to provide practical guidance for monitoring and evaluating (M&E) the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals.
In alignment with the United Nations 2030 Agenda, AI has revolutionized decision-making by harnessing big data and datasets for trend and pattern analysis. However, integrating AI into M&E processes introduces several risks, including bias and fairness issues, data misinterpretation, privacy concerns, security vulnerabilities, ethical dilemmas, and challenges related to reliability and robustness.
In conclusion, the EI offers examples of AI applications and key takeaways to stimulate engagement and collaboration in advancing M&E practices.
I extend my gratitude to the diligent editors who contributed to this EI, Dianna Davis-Smith and Eddah Kanini; and to the EVALSDGs Guidance Group focal points, Roxana Gómez-Valle and Lenyora Kabelo Sihwa. Laura
