Gender-Based Violence (GBV) is not just a social issue, it’s a systemic challenge that undermines agricultural value chains.

In rural and isolated areas, GBV threatens women’s safety, limits their economic participation, and weakens food security. When women cannot work safely, entire communities lose resilience, and businesses lose productivity. Climate resilience strategies that overlook gendered risks leave communities exposed and women vulnerable.

Ending GBV is essential for building equitable, sustainable, and climate-resilient agri-food systems; and it’s not only a human rights imperative, but also central to climate adaptation and economic stability.

The good news? Solutions work. Programs like the Women’s Safety Accelerator Fund (WSAF) demonstrate that addressing GBV can enhance productivity and strengthen workforce morale and brand reputation. Safe, inclusive workplaces aren’t just good ethics, they’re smart business.

Final evaluation consultancy of women’s rights programme, in Ethiopia, Kenya and Uganda

[Re-posting to the discussion section, as advised by the Gender & Evaluation team]

The AWESOME partnership is seeking a consultancy team with members in Ethiopia, Kenya and Uganda to conduct a final evaluation. This evaluation is a critical learning and accountability opportunity for us to reflect on our five year programme.

AWESOME is an advocacy programme that aims to support women’s movements in Ethiopia, Kenya and Uganda to be strengthened, less fragmented and more representative of diverse groups of women, including women with disabilities (WWDs). We focus on two themes of sexual and gender based violence (SGBV) and women’s participation and leadership.

We are keen to hear from evaluators about their proposed evaluation methods. We would love to hear from teams that integrate a feminist evaluation lens and use participatory approaches to centre the voices, knowledge and lived/living experiences of diverse women. Intersectionality and inclusion of diverse women is important to us.

The deadline for proposals is 19 January 2025. We hope to begin the evaluation in February 2025.
