F Njahîra Wangarî - Book Chapter

Abstract
"This chapter blends African oral and written narratives, lived experiences with a genetic chronic disability and a Roman Catholic upbringing. These will be interrogated to illustrate the role of alternative explanations in influencing advocacy and activism for the lives, wellbeing, dignity and inclusion of persons with disabilities. Particularly, this chapter is an exploration of self-identity and how persons with disabilities are conditioned to view ourselves in specific ways while highlighting alternative perceptions available is presented by the author. It engages the works of several African and African-descendent authors who feature persons with disabilities as characters in their books and relies on narrative prosthesis as the basis for this engagement."

Event Description

“Indaba” is an isiZulu and isiXhosa word for an important meeting held by leaders in South Africa to discuss critical matters. We have critical matters to discuss. We need to talk about transforming evaluation – about gender, race, colonialism, politics and money, science and evidence. We can’t keep quiet anymore about indigenous knowledge generation and its use in evaluation in Africa. The Africa Evaluation Indaba is an online webinar series that will bring us together to understand these issues in the evaluation field and to formulate deliberate and practical strategies in addressing them. The webinar series consists of 7 events focusing on key themes.
