F Njahîra Wangarî - Book Chapter

Abstract
"This chapter blends African oral and written narratives, lived experiences with a genetic chronic disability and a Roman Catholic upbringing. These will be interrogated to illustrate the role of alternative explanations in influencing advocacy and activism for the lives, wellbeing, dignity and inclusion of persons with disabilities. Particularly, this chapter is an exploration of self-identity and how persons with disabilities are conditioned to view ourselves in specific ways while highlighting alternative perceptions available is presented by the author. It engages the works of several African and African-descendent authors who feature persons with disabilities as characters in their books and relies on narrative prosthesis as the basis for this engagement."

Event Description

VNR Lab - Promising Practices in Gender Responsive Budgeting: Mobilizing Action for Well-Targeted Financing for Gender Equality
The review of SDG 5 at 2022 HLPF presents an important opportunity for countries to share progress, assess challenges and discuss strategies to achieve gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls. This VNR lab, organized by UN Women, will feature promising practices in gender responsive budgeting, a strategic policy approach to align and target financing towards achievement of gender targets across the SDGs. An interactive dialogue among Member States, civil society and international organizations will address lessons learned, including from 2022 VNR reviews of SDG5, and build political support to mobilize and harness resources for accelerating progress towards achieving SDG 5.
