F Njahîra Wangarî - Book Chapter
Abstract
"This chapter blends African oral and written narratives, lived experiences with a genetic chronic disability and a Roman Catholic upbringing. These will be interrogated to illustrate the role of alternative explanations in influencing advocacy and activism for the lives, wellbeing, dignity and inclusion of persons with disabilities. Particularly, this chapter is an exploration of self-identity and how persons with disabilities are conditioned to view ourselves in specific ways while highlighting alternative perceptions available is presented by the author. It engages the works of several African and African-descendent authors who feature persons with disabilities as characters in their books and relies on narrative prosthesis as the basis for this engagement."

Recrear has launched our call for applications for Magnify 2022 (October 1-14) - a two-week residency program which brings together a group of 16 activists, researchers, artists, and practitioners from all over the world around a learning question.
This year, Magnify will be held at the feet of the active volcano of Stromboli, in Italy. We will tap into the four elements to sense the impacts of two+ years of pandemic on our lives. The residency will be all about celebrating human connection, being face-to-face and heart-to-heart. Our learning question this year is:
"How are you reinventing yourself to attend to crumbling systems and accompany new beginnings?”
You can read more about the program here: https://recrearinternational.org/magnify/
Feel free to reach out to recrearinternational@recrear.info should you have any questions. We look forward to seeing you apply!
Warmly,
The Recrear Team
