F Njahîra Wangarî - Book Chapter

Abstract
"This chapter blends African oral and written narratives, lived experiences with a genetic chronic disability and a Roman Catholic upbringing. These will be interrogated to illustrate the role of alternative explanations in influencing advocacy and activism for the lives, wellbeing, dignity and inclusion of persons with disabilities. Particularly, this chapter is an exploration of self-identity and how persons with disabilities are conditioned to view ourselves in specific ways while highlighting alternative perceptions available is presented by the author. It engages the works of several African and African-descendent authors who feature persons with disabilities as characters in their books and relies on narrative prosthesis as the basis for this engagement."

This event will highlight learnings from the Couple Engage project on male engagement in family planning, focusing on specific insights from studies in India in the context of COVID-19.

Following a presentation on the project, we will host a panel discussion on male engagement in family planning, featuring Dr. Ravi Verma (ICRW Asia), Reshma Trasi (Pathfinder), and Siddharta Swarup (Facebook). ICRW Asia's Director of Research and Programs, Pranita Achyut, will moderate.

Key questions include:

What are the approaches and challenges in engaging men in family planning?
How can technology play a role in engaging young men in family planning, particularly in the context of COVID-19?
How has COVID-19 influenced men’s behavior and their identities?
Has COVID-19 provided spaces, opportunities and entry points that may be tapped into for gender-equitable family planning?
