Abstract
"This chapter blends African oral and written narratives, lived experiences with a genetic chronic disability and a Roman Catholic upbringing. These will be interrogated to illustrate the role of alternative explanations in influencing advocacy and activism for the lives, wellbeing, dignity and inclusion of persons with disabilities. Particularly, this chapter is an exploration of self-identity and how persons with disabilities are conditioned to view ourselves in specific ways while highlighting alternative perceptions available is presented by the author. It engages the works of several African and African-descendent authors who feature persons with disabilities as characters in their books and relies on narrative prosthesis as the basis for this engagement."

Coming soon: call for proposals to conduct qualitative evaluations on the impact of self-help groups on women’s empowerment in India

3ie will issue a request for proposals on 11 December 2018 inviting organisations or consortia interested in conducting qualitative evaluations to understand the impact of SHGs and their federations on promoting women’s social and economic inclusion and empowerment. The qualitative studies will complement the findings of an impact evaluation of the National Rural Livelihoods Project led by 3ie.
