Astha Ramaiya [Co-author] Shared the Journal Article - Published in Child Abuse & Neglect, June 2026

A new systematic review published in Child Abuse & Neglect examined the link between mental health and technology-facilitated child sexual exploitation and abuse (TF-CSEA). Analysing 10 studies with over 25,000 participants across seven countries, researchers found that depression, anxiety, low self-esteem, and prior trauma were consistently associated with victimisation. Crucially, the relationship appears bidirectional with mental health difficulties both preceding and resulting from exploitation; creating potential cycles of repeated harm. Perhaps most striking: traditional parental monitoring through technological surveillance showed limited protective effects. What actually mattered? The quality of parent-child relationships including, open communication, emotional warmth, and trust. The findings suggest prevention efforts should combine universal school-based programmes building emotional resilience with targeted support for high-risk youth, while parent education should prioritise connection over control. With 12.5% of children globally experiencing online solicitation annually, understanding these psychological pathways is essential for effective child protection.

How can we make Gender & Evaluation community more useful for you?

Dear Members,

Warm greetings!

We set up Gender and Evaluation international online space last year on 16th January 2014, yes its our first birthday. This community was set up by Institute of Social Studies Trust under its project 'Engendering Policy through Evaluation'. The project aims to strengthen understanding of gendered implications of policies and programmes and to enable formulation of more gender sensitive approaches to evaluation (www.feministevaluation.org/)

As the moderator of this platform I thank you for your active participation and valuable contribution. 542 members joined the community in one year.Sincere gratitude.

Its given me great joy hearing from some of you. Many have asked me what I do, I will try to post more of sharing, I did post some blogs. In brief I do three kinds of work- community mobilisation using community life competence approach, knowledge sharing and evaluation. I am most happy when I am in the field with the communities,

As we have completed a year, it will so much useful if I can get your feedback. Three questions:

1. Has 'Gender and Evaluation community' helped you in any way? If yes, please share when and how?

2. What can I do to make this community more useful for you?

3. Would anyone like to volunteer for this community for example facilitate a discussion, share resources, connecting people etc?

Warm regards,

Rituu B Nanda

Dear Rituu

Congratulations! This is such a vibrant platform for sharing and learning. I feel humbled to be a member of such an eclectic community. The discussions and postings are extremely insightful. I still face a lot of hurdles when addressing gender, equity and rights during evaluation studies...but it is my conviction that we will get there someday! Please keep sharing!

Warm regards

Dear Rituu, congratulations on 2 years of G&E.

For me, the platform has been very useful to trigger myself: am I asking the right questions? Am I questioning the status quo/system enough? In preparation for the 59th session of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW), I am so saddened to see that after making huge steps forward in the nineties, we have been making small steps backwards in the past 20 years. So Beijing +20 evaluation looks as if we are back from where we started. It urges me, and I hope other feminists, to get our focus back on rights. Being on this platform also enlightens me tot the fact how little I still know and it stimulates me to register for 1 of the online courses. Have not done it yet but will do it soon! And ofcourse the networking is great.

I would not really know how to to improve, since it is my own lack of action that makes me not use it often enough.

On volunteering, really don't know if I know enough about evaluation (see comments above) but would not mind to facilitate a discussion.

Bye, thanks and up to the next 2 years!

Dear Rituu,

Frankly speaking, I have been in the periphery of the group as the discussions/ information here are connected to the work I do but not directly. Surely it widens my understanding on evaluation. At times I got information on event which I then had attended. I use some of the information to view the work I do on preventing child marriage. It also helped me see the different point of view of feminist perspective from that of child rights perspective in limited manner as I could not invest much time in exploring.

‘THIS IS NOT A VIDEO CAMERA: CHRIS LUNCH AT TEDXIHECS’ video posted here is work in progress in mind and I am constantly thinking on making it a reality in the work I do. Such accidental encounter on this Community was useful in deed.

To me connecting people for the purpose is all time favourite   activity. I have been doing it but here I see myself bit limited because of are of expertise and network I have.  I am open to volunteer is something could be identified by you.

In India now many organisations/ agencies are working on child marriage and few studies on mapping of the organisation working on the issues are going on. You might like to invite them here.

In short I wish you to continue what you are doing and I am sure gradually many more professional will benefit in various ways.

Warmly,

Krinna

Hi rituu,As I have shared with you before, this forum has been very helpful in spreading the word on the Gender and Economic Policy Discussion Forums that we at ISST organize. We have had many people attend our discussions form this forum.

With regard to suggestions on making the community more useful I think we can begin with what  has been suggested by Susmita Mukherjee below.

1. Has 'Gender and Evaluation community' helped you in any way? If yes, please share when and how?

hi! yes, the community, helped me to link to other people, who are working in the same area. gender and evaluations is an interesting and eye-opening theme; which this platform led. we got the information about different disseminations of findings and learning, which added to our discussion on the theme.

2. What can I do to make this community more useful for you?

hi! some more pro-active discussions need to be moderated here. may be the facilitator could put some questions on a monthly basis for people to comment etc...

3. Would anyone like to volunteer for this community for example facilitate a discussion, share resources, connecting people etc?

happy to co-facilitate a discussion.

Hello!

Thank you for making me a member of this forum. Unfortunately I have not been an active member, but after going through the website I realize that I can learn a lot from here and from the members. I would it find it very useful if relevant trainings and materials are also shared on the forum.
