F Njahîra Wangarî - Book Chapter
Abstract
"This chapter blends African oral and written narratives, lived experiences with a genetic chronic disability and a Roman Catholic upbringing. These will be interrogated to illustrate the role of alternative explanations in influencing advocacy and activism for the lives, wellbeing, dignity and inclusion of persons with disabilities. Particularly, this chapter is an exploration of self-identity and how persons with disabilities are conditioned to view ourselves in specific ways while highlighting alternative perceptions available is presented by the author. It engages the works of several African and African-descendent authors who feature persons with disabilities as characters in their books and relies on narrative prosthesis as the basis for this engagement."

FYILast Thursday Indran Naidoo, Director of the Independent Evaluation Office of UNDP, and I signed a Joint Declaration of Intent, to demonstrate our intention to turn the two parallel conferences of the IDEAS Global Assembly 2015 and the Fourth National Evaluation Capacity conference into resounding successes with added value because of the possibilities to have joint meetings, share keynote addresses and so on. To some extent this sounds like an advertisement – “do use our product and your wash will be cleaner than ever”, but I can assure you that Indran and I are excited about the possibilities and believe that this will lead to genuine benefits. The declaration is therefore an important symbolic step forwards in our collaboration. We hope to bring more detailed news on the Global Assembly, the joint sessions with the NEC conference and the logistics of the events to you in the coming weeks. The declaration is attached to this email, and can also be found on the IDEAS website. It may be accessed by selecting :IDEAS Conferences --> IDEAS Global Assembly 2015 from the Home Page, or by using the link below:All the best,RobRob D. van den BergPresident, IDEAS
