Gender-Based Violence (GBV) is not just a social issue, it’s a systemic challenge that undermines agricultural value chains.

In rural and isolated areas, GBV threatens women’s safety, limits their economic participation, and weakens food security. When women cannot work safely, entire communities lose resilience, and businesses lose productivity. Climate resilience strategies that overlook gendered risks leave communities exposed and women vulnerable.

Ending GBV is essential for building equitable, sustainable, and climate-resilient agri-food systems; and it’s not only a human rights imperative, but also central to climate adaptation and economic stability.

The good news? Solutions work. Programs like the Women’s Safety Accelerator Fund (WSAF) demonstrate that addressing GBV can enhance productivity and strengthen workforce morale and brand reputation. Safe, inclusive workplaces aren’t just good ethics, they’re smart business.

"Les approches intersectionnelles de genre pour la collecte et l’analyse de données", un atelier international du F3E

Le mardi 14 septembre, l'Institute of Social Studies Trust (ISST) et la Gender&Evaluation Community ont hébergé un événement international du F3E sur la mesure du genre, qui a rassemblé près de 100 participant-e-s du monde entier !

L’approche intersectionnelle de genre intéresse de plus en plus praticien-ne-s de la solidarité internationale comme l’a pu le témoigner l’engouement pour l’atelier international organisé autour de la collecte et l’analyse de données. Cet espace participatif a permis à des personnes débutantes et expérimentées de partager leurs expériences, leurs difficultés, et leurs méthodes afin de mieux s’approprier cette approche.

 Comme l’a rappelé Othmane Chaouki, l’approche intersectionnelle de genre vise à « faire de la collecte de données un outil réactif et transformateur ». Trois points d’attention ont alors été développés et discutés pour intégrer une perspective intersectionnelle de genre : les méthodologies, le cadre de travail, et les intentions portées. 

Lors de l'événement, une participante a partagé son expérience et a dit inclure directement les groupes concernés au processus de collecte de données, car disposant de cette connaissance, ce sont elles et eux les plus à même de les analyser. Pour enrichir ce propos autre une participante a souligné que « La connaissance est un instrument de pouvoir. Cela signifie que ceux qui créent la connaissance sont les plus puissants car ils peuvent influencer la façon dont les gens pensent et dont les communautés fonctionnent, les perceptions et les pratiques à valoriser et celles à éviter. »

 Par ailleurs, d’autres méthodologies ont été discutées. Afin de ne pas réduire l’approche intersectionnelle de genre à une simple désagrégation des données, des participants ont proposé l’élaboration de cartographies de relations de pouvoir, d’identités, ou de parties prenantes, selon les différents terrains et leur contexte.

Le F3E proposera dans les prochains mois une note méthodologique autour de l’approche intersectionnelle de genre.
