The India Gender Report – the first of its kind – is conceived and envisaged in the context of the many gendered rights that are enshrined in the Constitution of India. The endeavour is to examine myriad essential aspects of the gendered economic, extra-economic and non-economic status perceived from the prism of transformative feminist finance in order to demystify the enabler and simultaneously the de-enabler role of the Macro-Patriarchal State. Each of the 26 chapters, which interlink academics, analysis, advocacy and action, indicate four universal processes across all sectors and sub-sectors: the reinforcement of gender de-equalisation; the intensification of patriarchal rigidities; the deepening of economic and extra-economic divides; the increased exclusion of vulnerable and marginalised groups.

In line with SDG 17, harnessing the power of partnerships is key to deliver rapid but sustainable and effective impact in increasingly complex and challenging contexts. Governments, parliamentarians, civil society, philanthropies, the private sector and other stakeholders – all play a distinct and crucial role in building resilient communities and targeting those most in need. As the world seeks to “build back better” in recovering from COVID 19, climate change and economic shocks, leveraging partnerships to their fullest extent is critical.

Effective development co-operation that is country owned, focused on results, involves all type of partners, and is transparent and accountable, strengthens trust that leads to impactful partnerships and better results in countries. National and local governments, philanthropies and CSOs play a crucial role in putting these principles of effectiveness into action, delivering on country priorities and progressing on the Sustainable Development Goals.

Country experiences show this is true now more than ever before with shifting and rapid responses to COVID, climate change and economic shocks in countries. Being the actors closest to the ground realities, local and national-level organizations and actors can help design policies and deliver programmes based on community needs. The side event presents lessons on how catalyzing the power, capacities and reach of these actors can put our limited resources to the best use, making our development co-operation more effective.

The side event is part of the road to the 2022 Effective Development Co-operation Summit which will take place 12-14 December in Geneva (hybrid). Taking place at the midpoint of Agenda 2030, the Summit will put a spotlight on how better co-operation strengthens trust and transforms the way we work together.
