Abstract
"This chapter blends African oral and written narratives, lived experiences with a genetic chronic disability and a Roman Catholic upbringing. These will be interrogated to illustrate the role of alternative explanations in influencing advocacy and activism for the lives, wellbeing, dignity and inclusion of persons with disabilities. Particularly, this chapter is an exploration of self-identity and how persons with disabilities are conditioned to view ourselves in specific ways while highlighting alternative perceptions available is presented by the author. It engages the works of several African and African-descendent authors who feature persons with disabilities as characters in their books and relies on narrative prosthesis as the basis for this engagement."

International Workshop on
Monitoring & Evaluation of Population, Health & Nutrition Programs
(February 24 – March 5, 2014, New Delhi, India)
Public Health Foundation of India in collaboration with USAID’s MEASURE Evaluation Project are pleased to announce “International Workshop on, Monitoring & Evaluation of Population, Health & Nutrition Programs,” for English speaking professionals. The workshop will be held in February 24 – March 5, 2014, New Delhi, India.
The workshop covers the fundamental concepts and tools for monitoring and evaluating family planning, maternal health, child health, STD/HIV/AIDS and nutrition programs. The course will include modules on M&E frameworks, data systems and indicators, surveys used in PHN programs, evaluation designs, building performance monitoring and evaluation plans, utilization and feedback of M&E results, data demand and use, GIS, gender and the M&E of health programs.

The total course fee for the workshop is US $3,700. The total course fee includes the workshop tuition, accommodation, partial board (breakfast daily and lunch on days the workshop is in session), and round-trip airport transfers .These costs do not include airfare, visa fees, or other expenses.
Applications must be submitted to PHFI by December 27, 2013.
A limited number of fellowships from MEASURE Evaluation are available to qualified applicants.
