The article, led by Linnea Zimmerman examines how opportunity structures (parental influence and neighborhood context) affects individual agency among boys and girls in Kinshasa, DRC. We used longitudinal data to identify three distinct groups for boys and girls in each domain. Parental monitoring was associated with the development of both domains for boys, but showed no association for girls. Conversely, parental closeness was more strongly associated with development for girls, than for boys. Neighborhood safety was associated with greater Voice and Freedom of Movement for both boys and girls.

Skill upgrading is a desire to grow, but it is not the solution to reduce unemployment. During Pandemic, it is not easy for people to learn new skills or additional skills to get the job for survival.
To fight with unemployment, institutions and authorities need to upgrade themselves to utilize available skills in different areas. Many computer operators are available and looking for jobs and there are several areas where computers didn’t reach (examples villages). This is only one example but if someone does research can find many more skills and working areas. First need is to create jobs and second is skill improvements.
It will be very good if small institutions to big institutions start thinking for finding and creating spaces for some employment opportunities for others.
Science education and associated skills are also not utilsed nicely till now..
